Guest Post: Health and Fitness

This was supposed to post while I was away!

Hey everyone! I’m Christina from Prep International!

So, only a few more months till summer;  I can’t wait, as I’ve been working on my health and fitness to get me ready for the warm sunshine days (Hopefully, with the weather here in Canada, who knows?)
Here are a few of the steps I’ve taken.

Running in the evenings during the school days; and morning on the weekends.  It is important to balance out school work and days that you’re free on Saturday. Meaning, on school days, I finish the day’s work, then only after I’m done do I get to go on my run/walk. And on the weekends, I have the rest of the mornings, afternoon, and evening to finish assignments and projects; so I run/walk for about 30 minutes and enjoy nature and fresh air!

Making better choices.

No Wendys or any fast food at all. I recommend treating yourself only at the end of the month. It’s up to you.
Drinking more water.
Doing little exercises everyday , even if it’s just participating in sports or riding your bike to the store.

Try your best and remember :
Have fun!

------------
Thanks so much Christina! Go check out her blog y'all! xoxo

Thoughts For The Week

This one has been weighing pretty heavily on my heart the past few weeks.  I've never thought about courage in this way, and I've been keeping that floating around in my head since then.

Thoughts For The Week

This week's thoughts remind me of a Tecumseh quote, "Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life." I agree. My life has already been beautified by all the sights I've seen in my short seventeen years.

Art

While I was in Paris, I attained a newfound love for abstract art, and a greater appreciation for paintings and sculptures as well.

Just a few of my personal faves from Centre Pompidou...

This has led me to explore more modern art at home.
Mark Rothko is one of my new favorites.

Kerri Rosenthal is another favorite of mine.

Do you like modern art?

India

Today, I'm off to India for my Operation Smile Mission!

I still honestly can't believe that it's finally here.

If you've been with me since the beginning, you know this has been the end goal for me since eighth grade. From Colorado, to getting rejected not once, but twice, to China, to finally getting in, to Mission Training, to Mission Assignments to today, it's not been an easy or short road.

I'm so so so thankful to my parents, who have poked and prodded me, even when I didn't want to be, along this path and who saw the end result, and I couldn't have made it through this past weekend without them.

I have some guest posters while I'm gone, and until then, have a fabulous two weeks!

Hit The Road, Jack

It's no secret that I love my Jacks! They go perfectly with almost every outfit I wear in the Spring and Summer and they're an adorable shoe to boot!

But more recently, I've been loving their other styles!

What do y'all think? What's your favorite style of Jack Rogers?

Just Be

Clearly someone has been trying to get my attention for a while, because it just smacked me in the face.

Thursday's devotion from The Daily Word
Two such simple words.

Y'all, I'm not going to lie. I'm exhausted. Like stick-a-fork-in-me-i'm-done exhausted. I would tell you what I've been doing the past two weeks, but quite honestly I can't remember.

I've been running from here to there and back and to see teachers and running errands and moving things around my room and telling myself that's being productive and cleaning my room at 2:30 in the morning and having dance parties to Starships by Nicki at 4:30 in the afternoon and walking around my school twice before I remember what I'm doing, all while humming a Big & Rich song from 2007. To say I'm a bit scatterbrained at the moment is a bit of an understatement.

The past two weeks have just been building and building with stress, anticipation, hope, fear, anxiety, and one too many Diet Cokes and Venti Iced Coffees.

Wednesday, I just lost it. Over what you might ask? Trying to decide what science I'm going to take my senior year.  One thing I'm telling my college counselor how I'm hoping my schedule will pan out and the next I'm sobbing about how I haven't slept, eaten, or really stopped for the past two weeks. Thankfully she's one of the teachers that I'm closest too, but I'm still pretty sure I gave her a good shock.

Yesterday, I was refreshed. I could see the finish line. I was sprinting at the end of the race.

Today, I'll turn in my U.S. History Paper, a long tradition at my school and one of the two major projects of my Junior Year.  I actually really did enjoy writing it, and I learned a lot about Ronald Reagan in the process. But I'm not going to lie, I really don't want to see or type the words 'conservative', 'republican', or 'Reagan' for a very long, long time. Two tests later, I'll be free as a bird.

Monday, I'll board a plane for Chicago, then Delhi, then Kolkata, then Bhubaneswar, and will be a temporary ex-pat once again for two weeks.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't do this every spring, nor did I plan out my junior year this way.

But I do know one thing, stressed out or not.

It's my life and it's sure fun.

Le iPad: Round Two

For those keeping score at home, I have already professed my love for the iPad.

Now it's almost in my hands, and will be by the end of this week.

But there is still a major decision to be made: the case.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the Lilly P case (natch), in Hotty Pink Fan Dance.

But I also really like this Kate Spade cover!

What do y'all use? I also would love any recommendations on anything iPad related - especially apps!

Happy Wednesday!

The Masters

There truly is nothing like Sunday Afternoon at the Masters.  Amen Corner, Magnolia, Holly, whatever place is your favorite, bring out the best and worst in seasoned golfers and rookies alike.  We all remember the great McIlroy Meltdown of 2011, and sadly Phil tripped up a bit on Sunday.

But watching Sunday, I watched, as Bubba slowly pulled ahead, fell back, and finally fell into a Playoff with Oosthuizen.

His shot on the 10th Hole is something I will never forget watching, as well as his final putt to win the green jacket.

His humility, grace, and poise are something not found in many professional athletes, as well as his sense of humor and genuine love for the game.

What can I say?

It was a great weekend at The Masters, and I can't wait for Masters Weekend 2013.

Easter Sunday

HE IS RISEN!

"One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door.
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore!
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again!
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glories will shine.
Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing,
My Savior, Jesus, is mine.
Living, He loved me,
Dying, He saved me,
Buried, He carried my sins far away.
Rising, He justified freely forever,
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day!"

"After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

Matthew 28:1-10

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Easter!

Just Another Day in Virginia...

Yesterday was one of the weirdest days of my life.

Navy Jets are a part of my life.  I hear and see them flying once or twice a week, if not every day.  Yesterday was almost like something out of a movie, especially after driving down the road adjacent to these apartments only a few moments before the Hornet crashed.  I can only say that no casualties, the contained damage, and the survival of both pilots amount to a true Good Friday miracle. I am so thankful to all of our first responders who work everyday to keep our cities, states, and country safe.

Even weirder? Seeing your city on the front page of CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, BBC, and even mentioned on the BBC World News in a Minute.  Not too bad for a so-called "faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington".

Needless to say, the next few weeks will be very interesting!

The Masters

It's that time of year again!

It's such a beautiful course and a very classy event - I will attend someday!  Even the website gets me a little teary, I just adore this event so much!  I can't link to any on here, but I would highly recommend watching some of the videos on the Official Masters Website, where you can also follow the players and rounds each day.

Without further ado, my picks for this year!

Adam Scott (Fondly referred to as Adam HOT)

And as always, I have to cheer on the family favorites...

Will you be watching this year?

France: Part Four

Of course, a visit to the Eiffel Tower was in order!

At the Centre Pompidou, I finally got to see one of my favorite paintings by Chagall!

I absolutely loved the Notre Dame! I lit some candles and loved the side chapels for prayer!

One of our last major visits was to Chateau de Malmaison of Josephine Bonaparte!
It was absolutely stunning!

Another favorite of mine was the Sainte Chapelle!

The stained glass is so intricate, and watching the sun glisten through the glass on my second to last afternoon in Paris was truly an amazing way to cap off my trip!

I cannot wait to return in the Summer of 2013 (fingers crossed)!
