Lacrosse

With Spring comes lacrosse season once again!   I'm a captain on the JV team, which I am okay with, however I do have some sad news.  This will be my last year of lacrosse.  I tried out again for the varsity team, went on the Spring Break trip, and was cut again for the second year in a row.  Last year, the coaches noted "speed and decisions in a game".  As a result, I started on JV last year and played a club team last summer.  This year, the coaches noted "not being able to stop an attacker", "wouldn't make contributions to the varsity program", "ability to move up and down the field" and basically told me to think twice before trying out again next year.  This is the last year I am eligible to play on JV and instead of wasting months of effort and being cut out of program next year, I'm going to stop while I'm ahead and get back into horseback riding, which I've been thinking about more and more lately.  Honestly, I've just lost respect for the varsity coaches and I'm way more happy on JV this year than I would have been on Varsity.  There are six other tenth graders on JV this year and we've grown really close which I enjoy.  I've learned a lot from tryouts this year and I just look at this whole experience as a lesson to be learned and a small bump in the road.

  1. I know it can be really disheartening when you try so hard and don't get the results you deserve. Have a great time with JV!

  2. Oh no! I'm sorry you tried so hard for that. I never played sports, so I don't really know, but I can imagine how disappointing that is.

At lease horse clothes are cuter!

  3. Yuck! Some coaches do not understand the concept of positive encouragement! I have met a lot of them as I am a coach myself. Do what is best for you and forget about what they say!

  4. I'm sorry to hear that but glad you have it all figured out!!! Glad you're a caption this year and like your teammates! It will look good on college resumes/applications to say you were caption. My senior year for golf my coach decided we would not vote on captions and the two seniors would be seen as non appointed captions? she was nuts! Well I did all the work that the caption would do so I listed it on college apps!!

  6. Those words are never fun to hear, but be so glad you're on JV this year..last year (my sophomore year) I made Varsity and was so surprised and excited until I realized what it meant..it meant being on a team with a snobby head coach who made me dread practice every day because he would grade us daily and my friends acting way over competitive. No fun, and as a result I'm not playing this year (junior year), so be glad you've got one more year on JV! Way more fun to be on a team where you get to play and be a star! Hope you're having a good weekend! Virginia

  7. I can't believe it was almost a year ago that I came to stay with you on Spring Break! Time flies, I guess.
