Wednesday

It's only Wednesday and it feels like these past two days have been two weeks long.

I suppose this is my not so nice welcome to Junior year and I've taken the challenge head on.  Somedays I feel like I get up and the next second I'm going to sleep but then there are days that I feel are never going to end.  It's living class to class to break to class to study hall to try and get homework done so I can get in bed before eleven to class to lunch to more class to finally climbing in my car and cruising my way out of school.  I feel like my Lilly planner runs my life more than I do, silently reminding me that I can cross off one more thing on my ever-growing to do list that seems to never go away or check off one more assignment in the next ten minutes. Reminding myself to breathe is normally on top of my priority list everyday.  And then there are days when you realize you're shivering in ninety degree weather and your head feels like its going to explode and you make the right decision that Alternate History and Latin aren't at the top of the priority list today, you are and struggling through the rest of the day isn't going to cut it. A three hour nap solves many problems.  It's been hard this year between reading eight page articles for APUSH, three chapters of a book for English, one chapter of a book for Alternate History, a poem for Latin, doing a million and one Pre-Calc problems and doing French exercises to remind myself that there are times when I just really need to come home and lay on the couch and watch Gossip Girl or Most Eligible Dallas.

So today, I'm taking a personal challenge to start doing a little bit more for me each day.  Whether it's doing the New York Times crossword instead of reading US History articles during break or getting a Starbucks one morning just because, I'm going to do more to make my days fun.

I'm doing it for me.
When was the last time you said that?

Elephant Appreciation Day!

Elephant Appreciation Day was founded in 1996 to celebrate the Elephant because it is...

the largest land mammal of our era, is unique among mammals for its trunk, is the most noble of beasts on earth, is most undeservedly threatened with extinction, has been man's benefactor in numerous ways throughout history, is entertaining and amusing, is gentle and friendly, contributes to ecosystem development and maintenance, and generally deserves to be appreciated and upheld as an example of courage, strength, self-reliance, patience, persistence, and general high quality of being.

I just adore elephants!

Mad for Missoni!

After school today, I zipped over to Target (sometimes it's really inconvenient that there's a Targe within 5 minutes of your school) to check out the Missoni situation.

I tried on these, but couldn't think of an outfit I could immediately pair them with and I'm not much of a heel person anyways.

Other than these shoes, there was a single bedding set left, a few laptop cases and some tights. Le sigh.

I tried on a few things and made nice with the dressing room lady who informed me that a new shipment might just be coming in on Friday and if I wanted to check to call the store and they would hold anything I wanted. Just a little tip for y'all!

This is the one thing I'm really holding out for.  I love the colors and the print is adorable!

What did y'all get? Let me know!

What Royar's Reading

Very inspiring book, but a little redundant

Woof. Just an awful book. No point whatsoever.

LOVED this book! Perfect guilty pleasure read.

Perfect Supplement to Skinny Bitch and The China Study

Fast paced and a good mystery

A quick chick-lit with a surprise ending.

Such a good book! The storyline is really intriguing and I love Lauren Weisberger!

What have you read lately?

September 11th

Today is September 11th, 2011.  It has been ten years since the day that changed America forever.

Do you remember where you were?

I was in First Grade.  Sick, at my Grandparents house, I remember watching the loop of the plane crashing into the Twin Towers on CNN with my Grandparents, but I didn't understand what was going on.  But did any of us understand? However, in the past few years, I have come to realize the full effect of that days events.

PM and PB were at school.

PF was in Washington State training FEMA Search and Rescue dogs. He wasn't allowed to come home, and stayed to finish the training so the dogs could go to DC and New York.

While in New York this summer, I visited Ground Zero.

It was a somber visit,

But one of hope and resilience.

Let us remember the 343 FDNY Firefighters that gave their lives that day; my Father knew many of them.

Let us all stop, and remember those who gave their lives, both on the planes, in DC, Pennsylvania and at Ground Zero.

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children. “
- President George W. Bush, November 11, 2001

God Bless America.

Pinterest & 101 in 1001

Happy Friday y'all!

A quick update on my 101 in 1001 challenge!

Start a club at school
I submitted a proposal and it was denied, however I am joining another club that works with Third World Causes and holding a leadership postion for Shining Hope. I'm so excited!

Become a Campus Representative for a company
That's right! I submitted my resume and am now a Campus Rep for a small company. I'll explain more details soon!

Donate Blood
This is the one I'm most excited about! I gave blood yesterday for the first time!  It gave me such a good feeling knowing that I saved three people's lives yesterday. Yep, you read that right.  Every minute, someone in the US needs blood.  Thank the Good Lord, no one in my immediate family has ever needed blood, but I know that if they did, I would want to know that I did my part.  To find out more, please visit Red Cross Blood.

And now, a little Friday inspiration...

Fall Fundamentals: Color Palette

I love the colors of fall. They're everywhere! You see people wearing oranges, yellows and reds and then you see orange, yellow and red leaves on the trees! Sadly, my trees don't turn pink, green and turquoise when Spring rolls around, but if you find a tree that does, please let me know.

But yesterday, as I enjoyed my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the Fall, I realized that Summer was over, but for once I'm actually excited that Fall is here.

Essie has the colors of fall down pat.

I'm so excited to wear my plum J. Crew Corduroys, pick up my first pair of Minnie Pants, wear my new riding boots that I got in DC and have a little cold snap in the air!

Here are some of my inspirations for this fall...

Let's Get Down To Business

When I was in China, a diplomat (hello, DREAM JOB!) came and gave a lecture.  One of his key pieces of advice to young professionals today was to have a business card.

Of course, this was the best excuse ever to get them! What's not to love about a cute preppy card complete with a monogram? My favorite sites are MooZazzle and Minted.

Where do you get your business cards from?

Last Day Of Summer!

With Monday being Labor Day, I've worn as many summer clothes as I could fit this week! Sadly, I now must bid adieu to a few of my favorite summer items...

Today I'm wearing my Vineyard Vines madras dress that I got at the DC Store!
I'm sad that I'll have only gotten to wear it twice before storing it for the winter, but it will be like new when I pull it out again!

I must also say goodbye to my dear Lilly White Jeans...
as well as my pastel shorts, shirts and dresses.

But I'm quite excited about Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Oranges, Hunter Greens and Plums as well as my all time favorite Leopard Print to be too sad!

And Alabama Football kicks off tomorrow! ROLL TIDE!
